Val Thorens is just 12 minutes away on the telecabine. Beyond that lies the vast ‘3 Valleys’ski area which is the largest ski area in the world.

Skiing in Orelle and Val Thorens

All levels of skiers are catered for. Beginners can to go to the ‘Ecole de Ski Français’next to the telecabine. There are also beginners slopes as you get off the telecabine.Good skiers can enjoy the 6 slopes in Orelle (top of the telecabine) or ski on into Val Thorens and the 3 Valleys ski area.

There is a choice of pistes back to Orelle. Competent skiers can take the unique black run called ‘ Combe Rosaël’ from the top of the Cime Caron telecabine in Val Thorens. From this point you will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Orelle area.

Orelle has some of the most beautiful, natural scenery in the 3 Valleys, with the highest point of the whole 3 Valleys (Pointe du Bouchet) at 3416m.A zip wire (the Tyrolienne’) has been installed from the Pointe du Bouchet to Val Thorens which gives an exceptional view across the valley. Due to its location at the end of the ski area, Orelle is quieter and calmer with fewer people than most other resorts in the 3 Valleys.

Skiing outside of the 3 Vallees

If you want to access ski areas other than the 3 Valleys, you will be spoilt for choice. In less than half an hour along the Maurienne Valley, there are numerous ski areas such as Valloire, Valmeinier, Aussois or La Norma.

Cyclists will benefit from an exceptional location in the Maurienne Valley, close to iconic cycling sites such as the Col du Galibier. There are a vast amount of well marked mountain bike routes and quality mountain bikes can be hired locally or in various resorts along the valley from 1/2 day to as long as you need.


Hikers will enjoy a vast and varied area to explore. Orelle is close to the Parc de la Vanoise which is the very first National Park that was created in France.With its unique flora and fauna, it’s an ideal starting point for hikers, where you could head for a different summit every day of the week!

In less than a 30 minute drive from the resort, climbers can also ascend on one of one of the numerous ‘via ferrata”.


Finally, should you want to travel further afield, you could visit Turin which is 90 minutes away through the Tunnel du Fréjus, close to the resort.
